Kwame Ross Residency Comes to a Close
Guest artist, Kwame Ross, seated center in the yellow shirt, speaks to the Legacy artists following a rehearsal. The intergenerational group listens as he encourages the process of developing synergy between drummers and dancers.

It's been a few extra weeks since our last newsletter. We're working towards a bi-weekly schedule, but got a little off-track during the two week residency of a Legacy friend and guest artist, Kwame Ross. With an extensive background in music, dance, and history of the African Diaspora, Mr. Ross infuses his cultural knowledge into the community process of Legacy Arts. He reminds us of the correspondence between art and life, that function exists if that is what we seek to employ. And we do! Our practice of art is for the sake of 'transformance', to serve as a continuation of history, to communicate the wealth, depth, and majesty of our ancestors. 'Lest we not forget'. We say 'thank you' to Kwame and all that he shared during his time here and are looking forward to his return in June.
Legacy Arts and the eSTEAM Program
Youth participants in the photography workshop of the eSTEAM Program.

Photography and youth often go hand-and-hand and with the prevalence of Smart phones, selfies are all the rage. But there is much more to photography than instant access granted by cellphones and the Legacy Arts Project has been invited by the Woodland Hills Academy to enrich the understanding of youth participants of the eSTEAM Program. Seventh and eighth grade girls in the after school program are participating in a three-week photography workshop conducted by Erin Perry who is encouraging an understanding of photography as a tool to document, archive, and spread a message. The students will be completing group projects that highlight their growing sisterhood within the program and will be displayed at their year-end celebration at the end of May.
Spring FABA Party postponed to a later date.
Many congratulations to HDAT and the seven women choreographers for the Second Annual Spring Concert. Youth and arts in the community is an investment in the future and we give thanks to all of the work being done by the Hill Dance Academy Theater!
