A Saturday With Youssouf Koumbassa

“To be here makes me very happy, to watch everybody, to see they want to learn. I’m going to be very happy to teach here.” - Youssouf Koumbassa. On Saturday April 12, 2025 at the Legacy Arts Project, the one and only Youssouf Koumbassa graced our dance studio with his fluid and ethereal movement. Dancers looked onward with amazement, attentive to every detail that would help them mimic the elegance of Youssouf’s dance style. As dancers took a swing at Youssouf’s choreography, you couldn’t hear a pin drop, only the sounds of movement and flowing fabrics. The room was filled with passion, colour, vibrancy and sheer focus. One cannot be in Youssouf’s presence without feeling inspired, invigorated and encouraged to learn dance and the beauty it holds. For those who missed rehearsals with Youssouf this past Saturday at Legacy, you are in luck, as he will be returning for this year’s Dance Africa 2025 on July 26th - 27th at the New Hazlett Theater for a special moment in time
