Happy Fall to You!!
It's a new season and a new energy, and as such, it's time to get in gear for all that awaits us during this transitory time of year. And just as the burst of fall colors invigorates our senses, Legacy is bringing classes to invigorate the body. There's a 'new guy' in town, Jean Paul Weaver is his name, and we are excited about the work that he is doing with us. Not only is he engaging the adults of the community class with breathing exercises and conscientious movement, he is teaching the Legacy youth about the fundamentals of ballet. Lot's in store as we transition through the seasons.

In addition, the 9th Annual Keepers of the Flame Awards is presented on Friday, November 13th at the Kaufmann Center. We are honored by this years' awardees as they blaze trails and leave lasting impressions through their work of art making. It is through their presence that the legacy of African influenced art remains visible and is passed on to future generations. For that, we thank them!

Stay posted for all that's going on in the community. Support artists and organizations that are working to create a space/city/world that reflects the beauty that humanity has to offer!

Primetime and Castle Programs

As we welcome in the fall, the kids are getting back into the routine of going to school and so are we with Primetime After School Program. Just like last year, we are working with the Woodland Hills School District, by way of the Consortium for Public Education, to bring arts and cultural enrichment to the middle school youth of the district.

Added to the slate, Legacy Arts will be providing programming with the Castle Program of the Clairton School District. We are excited by the opportunity to engage the youth, and the community, with arts' programming. We are also looking forward to the ways in which we are able to engage the youth in the preparation for the 5th Dance Africa Pittsburgh, coming up in the summer of 2016, where we will be focusing on the culture of Haiti, 'Revolution and Resilience'.

Students in both districts will learn 'Garment Design' with Saihou Njie and 'Self Exploration Through Art-Making' with Erin Perry.

              Congrats!

Congratulations are in order to Eric Smith and Aiyasha Morgan Lee on their union of marriage.
We Celebrate the Life of our dear
Mama/Sista/Miss Freda Ellis
LAP would like send our condolences to the family of Freda Ellis.

People will remember Freda Ellis in many ways: as a dedicated teacher and mother, a strong force in the community and even as a woman who wasn’t afraid to open a toolbox and tackle her own home renovations. Most famously, she’s remembered as a powerful pillar in the family support network behind her younger brother — the late playwright August Wilson.

Mrs. Ellis died Sunday at Forbes Hospice in West Penn Hospital following an infection that ended a journey through frontotemporal dementia, which was diagnosed in July 2012. She was 74.
