Father Ryan Arts Center

In customary fashion, the Legacy Arts Project and Sankofa Village for the Arts joined together to celebrate Black History Month at the invitation of the Father Ryan Arts Center. Honoring the diversity of the Black Family, the performance included the families of the members of the organizations, bringing youth and elders to the stage to share in the transmission of culture, both contemporary and traditional.

The community of African arts in Pittsburgh represented at the Black History Month celebration of the Giant Eagle Market District. Bridging connections between Legacy, Sankofa Village, and Balafon West African Dance Ensemble, all came together for a community performance with the youth and adults alike.

Legacy Receives
Temporary Placemaking Award

Representing Homewood, the Legacy Arts Project was awarded support as a host site for a Temporary Placemaking Public Art Project through the Office of Public Art and Neighborhood Allies. Over the next two years, the LAP will work with the project organizers to identify an artist who will work with the community to develop a public project that reflects the vision and aspirations of Homewood. Legacy to Host Summer Dreamers Programming

The Legacy Arts Project has been awarded a contract with the Pittsburgh Public Schools to provide programming with the Summer Dreamers Academy.

It's All About U in the Smithsonian Museum
The Smithsonian Institute will open the long-awaited National African-American Museum of History and Culture on September 24, 2016, which will be dedicated by President Barack Obama. The museum has built a collection of 11 exhibits to trace the history of slavery, civil rights and African american accomplishments. A few of the exhibits include such artifacts as the 13th Amendment and the Emancipation Proclamation as well as relics from a sunken slave ship.
This bus trip takes place from Friday, September 23 - Sunday, September 25. Hotel accommodations at the Marriott. Total cost is $350 for double occupancy.
